About Portsea

The resort town of Portsea graces the shores of Port Phillip Bay with a wonderland of beaches, bays, jetties, gardens and national parks. Famous walking trails, historic structures and the Portsea Pier provide endless ways to explore.

Things to do in Portsea

One of the most popular things to do is to take the “Millionaire’s Walk” to Sorrento. You can traipse across cliffs, parks and pathways to view millionaire mansions, gardens, yachts and private jetties. Back in town, join locals for a pint or plate at Portsea Pub.

Hitting the water is easy, with a myriad of options for boating, fishing, surfing and sea kayaking. Choose between the calm waters of the bay or crashing ocean waves at Portsea Back Beach. Learn to scuba dive in the waters around Portsea Pier or take a boat to outlying reefs for exploring wreck sites, such as the warship HMAS Canberra.

In Point Nepean National Park, you can wind through labyrinthic tunnels to find ancient fortifications and visit Fort Nepean. Rent a bike at the Visitors Centre for exploring trails, such as Wilson’s Folly and Gunners Cottage.

Walking tracks within the Mornington Peninsula Walk circle the peninsula, leading in and through spectacular indigenous terrain, historic sites and early settlements. Take the Bay Trail out of Nepean National Park to see Collins Settlement at Sorrento Historic Park, then rest at Lime Burners Kiln. On the Coastal Walk, follow remote trails through thick coastal ti-tree tunnels all the way to Gunnamatta Beach.
